Advancing brain injury rehabilitation as a global NCD priority

SameYou is proud to support the WHO-hosted World Rehabilitation Alliance's global campaign on rehabilitation for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) — a movement to ensure that people affected by conditions such as brain injury and stroke are no longer denied the vital recovery services they need to rebuild their lives.

Brain injury — from stroke, trauma, hemorrhage, or tumor — is one of the most overlooked yet widespread noncommunicable conditions. One in three people will experience a brain injury in their lifetime, yet rehabilitation for survivors and their families remains deeply underfunded, misunderstood, and fragmented across health systems.

SameYou is a founding member of the World Rehabilitation Alliance, with a commitment to improving healthcare for all. Jenny Clarke MBE, Co-Founder and CEO of SameYou, serves on the World Rehabilitation Alliance’s External Relations Workstream, ensuring that the voices of survivors and their families inform global policy recommendations.

Jenny said: "NCDs such as stroke and neurological conditions account for the largest share of global disability, yet many national strategies stop at prevention and acute care. Survivors are too often discharged from hospital into a void, with little or no support for recovery or reintegration into daily life."

The World Rehabilitation Alliance will spotlight this message during a high-level side event at the 78th World Health Assembly: “Integrating Rehabilitation into NCD Care: A Critical Step Towards UHC.” Co-hosted with Humanity & Inclusion, the event will be held in Geneva and online on Tuesday, May 20th, from 17:30 to 18:30 CET.

This is an event to bring awareness of rehabilitation ahead of the meeting in September where heads of state will seek to adopt and endorse a set of actions.
