Concussion, Sport & Recovery: Changing the Conversation

Concussion is a brain injury. So why is it still so often treated as something we can simply shake off?

Thursday 29th October, SameYou is bringing together voices from sport, brain injury and rehabilitation forΒ Concussion, Sport & Recovery, a live panel discussion exploring how we recognise, understand and respond to concussion.

From the playing field to everyday life, the conversation will explore why concussion needs to be taken seriously, what recovery can involve and how we can build greater awareness and understanding.

Why this conversation matters

Concussion is frequently associated with sport, but its impact can extend far beyond the moment of injury.

Symptoms can affect memory, concentration, sleep, mood, balance and everyday activities. While many people recover well, others face a longer and more complicated journey.

Despite growing awareness, misconceptions remain. Concussion isn't always visible, symptoms can be overlooked, and there can be pressure to return to normal activities before someone is ready.

At SameYou, we believe that understanding brain injury and recognising the importance of recovery are essential to improving outcomes.

Bringing sport and rehabilitation together

Our Concussion, Sport & Recovery panel will bring together perspectives from sport, lived experience and rehabilitation to explore:

  • Why concussion must be recognised as a brain injury, not simply a knock to the head.
  • The challenges of recognising and responding to concussion in sport.
  • What recovery can look like, including symptoms that may persist.
  • The importance of rehabilitation and appropriate support.
  • How athletes, clubs, coaches, families and communities can help change attitudes towards concussion.

The discussion will be an opportunity to share experiences, challenge misconceptions and encourage a more informed conversation about brain injury.

Changing attitudes. Improving recovery.

Founded by Emilia Clarke MBE and Jenny Clarke MBE, SameYou works to improve access to rehabilitation and long-term recovery support after brain injury and stroke.

Through this campaign, we want to help change the way concussion is understood, encouraging greater awareness, better conversations and recognition of the support people may need.

Concussion is a brain injury. It's time we treated it like one.
