NROL Wins NROL Wins NHS Excellence Award
We are delighted to announce that NROL (NeuroRehabilitation Online) has been named Regional Champion for Patient Involvement & Choice at the NHS Excellence Awards 2026.
The award recognises NROL's innovative approach to supporting people with neurological conditions through accessible, online rehabilitation that helps individuals continue their recovery beyond hospital discharge.
Currently delivered across East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) and NHS partners in Lancashire, NROL provides expert-led group rehabilitation sessions online, enabling people to access ongoing support from their own homes. The programme combines clinical expertise with peer connection and community, helping participants build confidence, independence and self-management skills throughout their recovery journey.
NROL was originally co-created and funded by SameYou during the COVID-19 pandemic in partnership with UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. What began as an innovative response to the challenges of delivering rehabilitation during lockdown has evolved into an award-winning model that continues to improve access to neurorehabilitation services today.
The NHS Excellence Award recognises the incredible collaboration between clinicians, researchers, NHS partners and people with lived experience who have worked together to rethink how rehabilitation can be delivered more effectively and accessibly.
To date, NROL has supported hundreds of people affected by stroke, brain injury and neurological conditions, helping them access rehabilitation, connect with others and continue their recovery long after leaving hospital.
The programme's success has also sparked interest from healthcare providers beyond neurorehabilitation, with the model increasingly being explored as a way to support people living with a range of long-term health conditions.
At SameYou, we are incredibly proud to have helped create and support a programme that continues to make a meaningful difference to survivors and their families.
Congratulations to the entire NROL team, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, UCL Queen Square and all the clinicians, researchers and participants whose dedication has helped make this recognition possible.
Together, we continue to rethink brain injury recovery.
