Spread some holiday cheer during our gift appeal
Brain injury happens in an instant. It doesn’t just happen to the brain but to the whole person - and everyone around them. Whether it's a one-time or recurring gift, your contribution through SameYou's Gift Appeal supports our vision to transform the way brain injury survivors and their loved ones are helped through emotional, mental health and cognitive recovery services.
SameYou in 2024:
This year was an important one for SameYou. Not only did we mark our fifth anniversary, founders Emilia and Jenny Clarke were also awarded MBEs for Services to People with Brain Injuries in the King’s New Year’s Honours list. They accepted the award on behalf of every brain injury survivor who has struggled to access quality rehabilitation and had to fight for their own recovery.
How you gift supported survivors
- We brought the huge problem of finding a job after brain injury to the House of Commons through our partnership with the Big Issue to help survivors and their carers to return to work.
- We listened, and we expanded our SameChat peer support programme, now offering both partnerships support for pairs and to groups, to reach more survivors and their loved ones.
- We added new resources to aid recovery.
- We gave a voice to those who struggle to be heard by publishing more than 60 survivor stories and launched Return to Work stories.
- We partnered with Mount Sinai Health System, New York to work on a training programme for the public to help solve the issue of lack of rehabilitation specialists.
- Our Neuro Recovery Directory has grown to help more survivors and their families to find support locally.
- We joined the UK Stroke Forum, a coalition of 31 organisations who are all committed to improving care and shared the experiences of our community and global specialists we work with.
- We have created a new research section, working with universities, organisations and healthcare providers, for survivors and their loved ones to get involved with shaping the future of neurological rehabilitation – and to access the latest support.
- Our pioneering one-to-many online Neurorehabilitation programme with the NHS was shortlisted for a national award.
- Jenny spoke on World Stroke Day to outline how we are failing young stroke survivors with poor recovery support, with coverage featured on ITV News, the Daily Mail and the Independent.
Looking ahead to 2025
- We are expanding Neurorehabilitation Online.
- We are partnering with Mount Sinai Health System, New York, to launch our peer support programme.
- We are presenting our research findings outlining the lack of support after brain injury at the American Heart Association’s International Stroke conference.
- We will be working with major new partners to elevate awareness of the need for rehabilitation after brain injury and take the message to a new audience.
- We are expanding our Self Help and Peer Support Programmes.
To continue to create positive change in the brain injury recovery pathway, we need your help.
We are not funded by any government or individual and so we are limited on what we can do without donations to move forward with innovative and life-changing projects.
Will you help us support the 1 in 3 people living with brain injury please? We are asking for your support through a one-off donation this Christmas to develop our Self Help and Peer Support Programmes.
